Students vs. Hiv & Aids


Diseases and health problems stands as one of the adverse factor that affects the education of Africa, it is well known that Africa is a breeding ground for all sought of diseases most of which are originated and others imported.
HIV & AIDS is the most feared disease that affects the youths, the percentage of the infected are rising by the day, most youths are even afraid of going in for testing because they are worried about the outcome. The battle against HIV & AIDS by the government has led to the creation of various organization groups to help tackle this problem.
As part of activities marking the worlds AIDS Day 2011 which is celebrated across the world on December 1 the Society of Petroleum Engineering (SPE) at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) organized a seminar tagged World Aids Day - PTI intervention. The event which started with an interactive session with the participants on the ABC's of HIV & AIDS prevention in which 'A' stands for Abstinence, 'B' for Be faithful and 'C' for use of Condoms.

Guest speakers and honorary health practitioners were also present at this event, to educate the students on the various stages of the virus and ways to prevent it, on these insights it was explained that the virus originated from Florida in the United States through the act of homosexuality.
The guest speakers also made it clear that the most important of the ABC formula is A which is Abstinence thereby urging the student to abstain from unprotected and pre-marital sex, as this counts for 95 percent of all means by which the virus could be contacted, this however did not leave the students without these opinions, as some agreed with abstinence while others insisted that the use of condom is the best way to be cautious.
In respect to this event free HIV & AIDS testing were also made available for them. A students who pleaded anonymousity to the newspapers said that he is overwhelmed with joy, as he tested negative despite the series of unprotected sex he has had since 2004, he also urged the youths to get tested as it's known that the statistics of this virus infection on youths seems to increase on the months of febuary due to the lovers day celebration 'Valentines Day'.

  1. This is a very good blog for our youths and students. They are to take maximum protecting for HIV and AIDS. They need to be more educated on STDs.
