What's In Stall For New Years After The Christmas Bombing?

Christmas which was supposed to be celebrated with jingles, carols and sharing of quality time with loved ones has taken a different turn due to terrorism. A militant Muslim group called 'BOKO HARAM' has taken it upon themselves to destroy any progress or development in Nigeria, for the past three years the rate of terrorism has grown rapidly and thousands of lives lost due to attacks and bombings by this Islamic group.
BOKO HARAM has sworn to make the activities and lives of Christians miserable, this emanated the series of bombings of churches on Christmas day, which caused an estimate of 250 casualties with over 150 dead and others seriously injured. It was reported that the bombs were set off during church service in over 3 different churches. Citizens all over Nigeria are in mourning over the loss of friends and loved ones, with these attacks it is now clear that all hopes of a joyful and peaceful Christmas celebration has been destroyed.

Students vs. Hiv & Aids

Diseases and health problems stands as one of the adverse factor that affects the education of Africa, it is well known that Africa is a breeding ground for all sought of diseases most of which are originated and others imported.
HIV & AIDS is the most feared disease that affects the youths, the percentage of the infected are rising by the day, most youths are even afraid of going in for testing because they are worried about the outcome. The battle against HIV & AIDS by the government has led to the creation of various organization groups to help tackle this problem.
As part of activities marking the worlds AIDS Day 2011 which is celebrated across the world on December 1 the Society of Petroleum Engineering (SPE) at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) organized a seminar tagged World Aids Day - PTI intervention. The event which started with an interactive session with the participants on the ABC's of HIV & AIDS prevention in which 'A' stands for Abstinence, 'B' for Be faithful and 'C' for use of Condoms.

Protests of Students towards Education

It is no secret that teenagers are about the most rebellious group when it comes to authority, which has been proved to be right with recent riots and protests.
The latest of this protest which involved the students of the Anglican High School in Ekiti State over their failure of the Unified Mock Examination which will determine their passage from SS2 to SS3, students were reportedly angered by the announcement of their repeat of SS2 class, thereby seeing it as a demotion which they responded by going on a rampage protest thereby paralyzing commercial activities in the area for hours.
However, this protest got out of control with the arrival of

Devastating Effect of Strike on Education

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) declared a strike which has been going on for the part 2 weeks, over the implementation and enforcement of the 2009 agreement between ASUU and the Government which took the union years of strike and continuous dialogue culminating in a national strike that lasted from june 22 to October 9 2009, before the government gave in and signed an agreement.
These agreement which are
*Better funding of of universities.
*Better remuneration and condition of service
*University autonomy
*Academic freedom
*Amendment of the law establishing the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB)
*The extension of retirement age of professors from 65 to 70. Among others.
These agreements is believed will help improve the educational standards of universities, and also for the purpose of giving quality educations to the students.
The Government in response has granted most of these demands but excluding some which the ASUU still insists is the of most importance to them, which are the extension of retirement age from 65 to 70 and the reduction of school fees which was drastically increased from N25,000 to N350,000.
Currently both the federal and state universities are on strike, the students having lost so much time, due to these strikes, students are now protesting for the issue to be resolved especially the recent hike in the school fees, stating that they can barely afford the previous fees and also maintain a three day meal.

Nigeria Bans Gay and Lesbian Relationship

So many urgent and serious situations which has befell on Nigeria has been undoubtedly regarded as a minor problem as compared to the Gay and Lesbian sexual relationships.
This issue as it appears seems to be of more importance as it is believed that it is against the culture, tradition and value system of the nation. Therefore the diplomatic hysteria that heralded the passage of law outlawing gay marriage-cum relationships by the senate is unwarranted.
The senate unanimously voted on November 29 outlawing public displays of affection between gay and lesbian couples, and has even passed out a 14 year jail term for any person involved in same sex marriage and a 10 year jail term for persons who abets or aids such unions.

Nigerian President Battles Terrorism

The Northern parts of Nigeria are still in terror and chaos following the constant attacks by the notorious terrorist group by the name 'Boko Haram'. Following the last few attacks that occured in November which involved series of explosions in Bauchi State, and parts of Damaturu leaving an estimate of over 180 casualties, with 170 dead and the rest fatally injured, these has got the state dwellers terrified and fleeing for their lives.

State Of Terrorism in Nigeria

It is well known that no country is immune to terrorism, all countries in one way or the other suffers from corruption and terrorism. In Africa the rate of terrorism, corruption, frauds and illegal trafficker are at an increase.
Currently in West Africa, Nigeria has a rapid terrorist activities, over the past three years Nigeria has not been at rest since the advent of an islamic group called "BOKO HARAM", a notorious group that is opposed to any western tradition or ways such as Education, Culture and Science. This group which has grown much stronger over the years, has now resulted into the use of bombs and explosives as their strategy for creating tension and division in Nigeria.
Northern parts of Nigeria is in chaos with it's citizens in panic and fear of their lives due to the death of hundreds of innocent lives emanating from bombing of buildings and places. People are now now afraid to go to public areas such as markets, parks, social activities and churches. The fear which is caused by the fact that these are the recent targets of their attacks.
These terrorists has even vowed to humiliate the federal police for daring to give the group an ultimatum to stop it's activities, this that they proved by the recent bombing of the Nigerian police headquater in the Federal Capital Territory, leaving hundreds of people dead. These attacks has left the Northern States residents in fear and panic as to where and who will be their next attack.
The news are now filled with the horror and remains of these attacks. BOKO HARAM activities has even attracted the attention of The United States, with the President Barrak Obama making efforts to aid Nigeria into the resolve of this issue.
Due to these attacks Nigeria is now on the list of terrorist countries, this have even lead the US Embassy warning it's citizens about any impending visits to Nigeria due to it's rate of terrorism.

Parents Effect on Career Choice of Teenagers

Career choice is what will determine the future of an individual, most teens even at childhood, already know what they want to do in when they grow up, but as one matures those dreams and aspirations keeps getting farther out of reach.
These aspirations are often triggered by ones talent and attraction to things, in West Africa due to the ever-increasing rate of unemployment the career choice of an adolescent is mostly influenced by this factor, which is also supported by parents.

Effect of Unwanted Pregnancy on the Female Education

Early and unwanted pregnancy in teenage girls has been a serious problem to the educational growth of most African countries. Due to the increasing rate of poverty in most countries the girl child education is eroding.
Girl child Education in Western Africa is mostly considered unnecessary in the society due to the strong belief that females are only a source of wealth to their parents by givin them away for marriage as soon as they reach puberty. This therefore poses a great deal of problem for girls who actually wants education.

Unemployment Casualties

The development of a country is mostly determined by how much of it's citizens are educated and employed, in cases where this key factor is lacking it poses a huge set back to the growth of the country.
In Western Africa there is an ever-increasing rate of unemployment, which has lead to insecurities, arms robberies and terrorism. These done by the involvement of energetic youths, who should be productively engaged in employments or educational trainings that ought to advance the country.

Power Outage Effect on the Education of Nigeria

Power supply is one of the factors that aids the improvement of the educational system of any nation, but what happens when this factor is inadequate.
Nigeria's power supply company was recently privatized with over $100 billion poured in by investors in the hopes of improvements and actualization of the VISION 2020 project, which due to the oil-rich situation of Nigeria should have the capacity to provide electricity to all its 150 million citizens, the privatization which also lead to the change of the name Nigeria Electric Power Authority 'NEPA' to Power Holding Company Of Nigeria 'PHCN'.
But even with these changes there has been so little improvement in power supply, with many parts of the country still without electricity. This situation has affected the country's education and learning standards in many Universities and Colleges, due to little or no electricity supply on hostels and campuses it makes it difficult to study during night hours without developing health problems such as eye problems resulting from the use of lantern and in most cases death due to too much inhalation of toxic fumes from generators.
This problem of epileptic power supply from 'PHCN' has posed a conundrum that has resulted into series of riots and protests from students in different states and universities. The most recent which involved students from University of Ibadan (UI) who grounded all academic, commercial and administrative activities on the campus and took to the streets bearing placards and banners with various inscriptions, chanting war songs and condemning 'PHCN' for making learning harrowing for them, crying out to the public most of the students made note that they have spent too much on diesel for private generators and Electric bills which are not given to them. Hopefully this problem will be addressed quickly so as to improve the education as well as living conditions of the citizens.

Vision 2020 on the Educational Sector of Nigeria

Vision year 2020 is a dream set out by the federal government of Nigeria, initially by the former president Gen. O. Obasanjo and carried on by the current president Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. It's a strategic goal and Vision which aims to launch Nigeria into the league of the top 20 economies by the year 2020, it further entails that by the year 2020 Nigeria would have had a tremendous improvement, to become a country which can be compared to the economic standards of USA. Over the past 5 years lots of developments and projects has being set in motion to help see this dream manifest in the country.
In the Educational sector, it is believed that Nigeria will attain vision 2020 through science and technology. The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board, Engr. Ernest C. Nwapa has affirmed science and technology as the bedrock of development and a means to achieve a viable educational case for the actualization of this dream.
Engr. Nwapa made note on the importance of science and technology in a speech on the occasion of vision 2020 career counseling, industry awareness and youth empowerment, held in lagos a few months ago.
During this workshop a conclusion was revealed that a career in science, technology, oil and gas industry will be of great help to the Nigerian youths and the nations dream, and these career path requires science subjects such as physics, chemistry, mathematics.
Seeing the great opportunity that abound in oil and gas industries, the Federal Government under the leadership of Dr. Goodluck jonathan, signed in to law the Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act in April 2010 which was geared towards developing and improving Local indigenous capacity with the view of enabling Nigerians to participate in development of the country's oil and gas industry that would generate an estimated 300,000 job opportunities for Nigerians the next five years.
A country's development without the involvement of youths is an exercise in futility, Nigerian youths are very highly endowed and encouraging them to participate gives them the opportunity to accept new and greater responsibilities.

Understanding the True Risks of Volcano Eruptions

Although many people are aware of the fact that volcanoes are dangerous, there are other risks that people might not be aware of. One obvious volcano risk is the lava comes from a volcano when it erupts. People understand that the lava is hot and can destroy anything that touches it and this fact is what most people think of when they think of volcano risks. However there are other dangers that happen due to a volcano eruption and these dangers are often misunderstood to the general
population.
One important volcano risk that can be even more dangerous than the hot lava is the gases that are released upon a volcanic eruption. These gases are perhaps more dangerous than the hot lava because they travel faster than the lava from a volcano. Lava from a volcanic eruption does not move fast and although it is possible to outrun streaming hot lava. However, gas is airborne and travels faster and the consequences can be extremely hazardous.
One of the poisonous gases that are released during a volcanic eruption is carbon dioxide. If a person is trapped in a cloud of pure carbon dioxide it is possible that they will experience difficulty breathing and might find themselves suffocating. There are other gases that are released into the air after a volcanic eruption and there have been various instances of people who have died from the inhalation of poisonous gases.
Another volcano risk that people do not understand is the volcanic ash. Images of volcanic eruption do not capture the dangers of volcanic ash. Unlike other forms of ash, volcanic ash is not powdery dust that floats
onto the land. Volcanic ash is actually made up of heavy rock and it can destroy any objects that it comes into contact with. This danger is often misunderstood because it appears to be light in the air however it is quite heavy and can rain down and crush anything in its path.
The third volcano risk is the most deadly and has claimed the lives of many people in volcanic eruptions. This risk is the pyroclastic flow. People who are caught in the pyroclastic flow of a volcanic eruption die instantaneously. The speed of a pyroclastic flow from a volcanic eruption is so fast and the hot rock and gas flies out of the volcano.
The pyroclastic flow destroys everything in its path therefore people inside of moving vehicles cannot outrun a pyroclastic flow. Many people are unaware of this volcano risk and they think that the lava or ash from a
volcanic eruption is the most dangerous. However, the pyroclastic flow is the most deadly consequence from a volcanic eruption.

Ex-Convicts Education in Nigeria

Nigeria educational systems which has shown rapid improvements over the years has now reached out to ex-convicts, with the help of benevolent organizations the opportunity of education is been made available for ex-convicts. The life recovering pre-release empowerment programme also known as project "ONESIMUS" took off in 2009, and has since then produced over 100 university graduates. This project which was set in motion by THE PRISON FELLOWSHIP OF NIGERIA (PFN) in col-laboration with THE NIGERIA PRISON SERVICE (NPS) for the purpose of preparing beneficiaries for a productive life after serving their jail time, to give hope to the incarcerated and rejected inmates and ex-inmates not just for their sake but for the entire society as well.

Nollywood Revival

Cinema entertainment has always been a highlight of places and things, without cinema entertainment is left unbalanced. Nigeria's entertainment industry has always made efforts to measure up to standards following the lead of pioneers Hollywood.
Nollywood's tv shows and movies still needs a lots of work, from the acting, directing, scriptwriting, all the way to the production and marketing, lots of minor and major flaws are made which if corrected will make a positive difference.
It seems Nollywood have simply run of storylines for movies, recent movies are always the same, just with different actors, one can even predict the outcome of a movie just by looking at the title, not subtle at all. Making a good movie requires money but what difference will it make when the other pieces of the puzzle are missing, for instance there is no use of wasting a huge sum of money to make a movie when there are no good or impressive storyline and directing, imagine making a movie titled "MY ONLY LOVE" which is in the same storyline and exactly the same name as another movie titled "MY ONE AND ONLY LOVE" produced on the same year.
Other sectors that has major problems are the duration of movies and the production. It takes Nollywood 2- 3 months to make a movie, why the rush in production. This is a major problem, the hurry and urgency in producing a movie makes these movies worthless. Judging from this, it's obvious that if more time are put into the production of Nigerian movies, it'll yield a great outcome. Great Hollywood movies produced by notable production companies takes at least 10 - 12 months, this helps to fix flaws.
Another issue that still pose a setback is duration of movies, a good movie only take about 1 hr - 2 hrs at most but nollywoods movies takes 3 hrs per movies and the most frustrating part is that most of them always have about two to three sequels. What takes up all the time in these movies, maybe it's because of the irrelevant addition of unnecessary scenes, take for example a man going to work, steps out of his house, enters his car and drives all the way to work. 'what the hell'

The Influence of Teaching Methods and Strategies on the Achievement of Mathematical Science

Nigeria, like many other nations in Africa is suffering from low technological and qualified skilled man-power in almost all fields of human endeavour, especially in sciences thus, there has been some efforts geared towards "western technological transfer and educational resuscitation within the federal and state level," that is to say holistic transfer of western education and technological enhancement growth in the nation's technological and educational acquisitions. As manifested in the percentage increase in budgetary allocation of funds to the educational sector, with the view to achieving scientific technological and economic emancipation

Attitude of Parents towards Female Education in Nigeria

In Nigeria, men and women have their own role to play for the benefit of the society. Men are said to be the head of the family, while the women took care of the children and house. This practice has been on for generations, it thereby stands as a draw-back to girls in many fields especially education.

Education of boys is considered more important because they are made to look after their parents and family, while the girls would be married out. These attitudes of parents toward the girl-child's education was very common in native parts of Nigeria. Some parents still believe that secondary school education is the highest they can offer their female children because they see them as temporal members of the family.

Nollywood Highway

Nollywood, A very commendable franchise almost a comparison to Hollywood, it is Nigeria's pride and has been  for years. Showing a great improvements over the years. I can honestly say that it's a wonder how much Nollywood industry has accomplished with the help of the great actors and actresses and let's not forget the thoughtful scriptwriters, directors, producers and the rest of the crew.
Earlier i mentioned that Nollywood is almost a comparison to Hollywood, well that might have been an understatement because judging from recent movies it seems that the industry is moving backwards instead of forward which is really disappointing.

It's due to the low funding and money budget on movies which resulted to the unavailability and of needed technologies and equipments to facilitate the making of good movies with good special effects and illusions, so that limits the industry to some specific types of movies which are:-

PART 3: THE EFFECTS GAMES & SIMULATIONS METHOD ON ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF MATHEMATICS ON NIGERIAN SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

Students may be confused even when real object are made use of to solve mathematics problems not to talk of when only symbols as used to do this. It's hoped that when illustration with physical object coupled with dramatization is made use of in teaching different concepts in mathematics, students' understanding might improve. The lecture method, of teaching has been described as a verbal and one way communication channel during which the teacher speaks and the students listen with little or on contribution to the learning process while games and simulations method is seen as doing by example method of teaching with the students participating and handling instrument during the learning process. Numerous mathematical games exist which are used in teaching and learning of various concepts and skill in mathematics. Some of these games include Ludo, drought or checkers; azego or okwe(igbo), number games and puzzle and monopoly. Etc.

These games mentioned above provides enjoyment and recreation. They also simulate mathematical thinking and also generate excitement and spirit of competition. Mathematics games also provid reinforcement to both losers and winners. For the losers the will try to overcome their defeat, the winners will endeavour to maintain their lead.

Owa (1988) identified two kinds of games as concept and logical games. The concept games are introduced during lessons before logic games. It is used to ascertain the previous experience students' have and the extent to which the concept have developed while logical games are in teaching attribute discrimination. Games and simulation methods being a method which compels the learner to learn to teache by example and the students learn through seeing and touching as major means of communication in the classroom learning. Ezeani and Maduewesi (1999) declared that different methods of teaching should be used in the class by skillful teachers so as to effectively teach his class.

The went further to say that a skillful teacher user as many method as possible because of the fact that there is no single methods which will be described as best for every situation. Hence, the success of using different methods depend greatly on the teachers analysis of the education purpose of such subject, the ability and age of the students in the class and the subject matter that will be treated. Thus a proper teaching and learning situation can be achieved by making use of other appropriate teaching methods. B58 GYRG58 ZX5

PART 2: THE EFFECT OF GAMES AND SIMULATIONS METHODS ON ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF J.S.S.2 (junior secondary school class 2) MATHEMATICS IN NIGERIA

The questions in my previous blog post on this topic, could not be answered without students being engaged in authentic learning. Authentic learning requires the learner to ammunicate an in-depth understanding of a problem or issues rather than memorize sets of isolated facts and it our result in achievements that have relevance beyond school (Bettina T.O and Lankard T.O, 1997). Therefore, for authentic learning to take place in mathematics, method or style of teaching needs to be innovative.

Adewuyi (2001) noted that the style of teaching employed by teachers is a potent factor in motivating learners to learn. According to him, mathematics is subject, which is very easy to make difficult and very difficult to make easy. The perennial methods of teching mathematics through listening, looking and learning have not been successfull and if anything, it has resulted in making students dislike mathematics. Akinsola, 2002).

Coudron (1997) as stated in Akinsoka (2002) offers the following suggestions to teachers for targeting instruction to individuals.

- Focus on outcomes rather than technique.

- Make learning experiential.

Give students control over their own learning.

- Respect learners ability to engage in parallel thinking.

- Highlight key point.

- Motivate Learner.

- Provide Challenges.

The suggestions above might not be possible using a single instructional strategy or style. So a combination of strategies might be required. Providing motivational environment, challenging and making learning experiential, demand active participation by students.

Simulation-game instructional strategy might be an antidote. The present situation of mathematics at all levels of education more especially the secondary school nowadays is becoming very deplorable. Most students prefer art subjects instead of mathematics. Obodo (1997) stated that performance of students in mathematigcs is at a very poor state.

It's on this basis of problem facing Nigeria students in learning mathematics that i chose this topic "the study of the effect of games and simulations on the academic achievement of J.S.S.2 mathematics".

Methods of approaches used by the teachers in presenting their lessons. Morris, Randel, Wetzel and White Hill (1992) pointed out that game significantly improved learning in a computerized drill and practice mathematics lesson for third to sixth graders over those who did not have the game opportunity, even though the game playing students did fewer exercises because teachers who used the game to teach did not cover enough ground as teachers who did other wise. Considering the way many students learn mathematics, it's absolutely nothing to write home about. That is why Adenira (1993) observed that teachers struggle to teach mathematics against the nature of children; hence the children does up disliking mathematics. He stressed further that the traditional learning method of memorization has done much harm to the learning of mathematics. Therefore if a child is asked of what if learnt after one month if may not be able to recall the information.

THE EFFECT OF GAMES AND SIMULATIONS METHODS ON ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF J.S.S.2 (junior secondary school class 2) MATHEMATICS IN NIGERIA.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Mathematics, according to Oxford Advanced Leaner's Dictionary is defined as the science of number quantity and space. The dictionary explains that Arithmetic, Algebra, Trigonometry and Geometry are some of the branches of mathematics. With the above definition, it is important to know that mathematics is applicable, to all human endeavours. One can imagine the place of our growing technology, engineering, telecommunication, banking and administrations without the application of mathematics principle. The National Certificate in Education (1993) stated that mathematics had been tremendously useful in many aspects of human endeavours. Nigeria students should be taught "what mathematics is" and "how it works". There students are expected to acquire scientific skills and concepts of organizing information, investigation, interpreting and making decisions. Such skills could only be developed through the adequate use of teaching methods in the teaching of mathematics.

Studies in mathematics education show the difficulties students have acquisition of mathematical concepts. Various studies (Akinsola, 1994, 1997), popoola, (2002) have shown that an instructional strategy is crucial to the understanding of mathematical concepts. Effective instruction requires to be outside the realm of personal experience unto the world of the learners (Brown, 1997). It is the learners who must be engaged for learning to occur, the learner is the one who must take the commitment to learn, Newman et al (1995) pointed out that for learning to be meaningful (authentic) it must be individually constructed. Learning takes place as students process, interpret and negotiate the meaning of new information. To Brown (1997), Learning is heavily influenced by the prior knowledge, values, expectations, reward and changes that shape the learning environment.

What then can we use to shape the learning environment?

How do we teach mathematics in a way that students can use it, apply it, in general work with it?

What is the appropriate didactic approach that will permit students to broaden their instrument in solving real life problems?.

PROBLEMS OF STUDY OF SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY AND MATHEMATICS EDUCATION IN NIGERIA

Continuing our research. Despite the importance attached to technological advancement, there has been a decrease in the number of students passing mathematics at all levels of education especially senior school certificate examinations. This ugly trend does not argue well for a country in dire heed of technological development. The importance of mathematics as the bedrock for any technological breakthrough cannot be overemphasized. Nigeria quest for technological developments will be a mirage, if a great of importance is not attached to mathematics.

PURPOSE OF STUDY WAS TO:

1. Determine the possible difficulty areas experienced by mathematics students at JSS (junior secondary schools) in Anaocha L.G.Area.

2. Find if male and female students (gender) experience same difficulties.

3. Make appropriate recommendations on suitable remedies for improvements.

4.Encourage students imbible the concept that mathematics, is a primary language for supporting children in science and technology.

The following research questions guided the study

i. What mathematical areas do students find difficult?.

ii. What reasons do most students give for finding the areas difficult?

iii. Do male students experience the same difficulties in the same areas as female students do?

THE FOLLOWING HYPOTHESIS GUIDED THE STUDY

H 1: There will be no significant difference (P,0.05) between areas in geometry found difficult by make and female students of junior secondary school students.

H 2: There will be no significant difference (P<0.05) between the areas found difficult by male and female students of JSS 2 students in algebra.

H 3: There will be no significant difference (P<0.05) between the areas found difficult by male and female students of JSS2 students in arithmetic.

H 4: There will be no significant differences (P<0.05) between the areas found difficult by male and female students of JSS students in all GEOMETRY,ALGEBRA,ARITHMETRIC AND STATISTICS COMBINED.

SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY AND MATHEMATICS EDUCATION IN NIGERIA

INTRODUCTION

Science and technology is the bedrock of any developing nation. Nigeria as a developing nation with a teeming population of unemployed school leavers who needs better mechanized agricultural system. Self employed technologists and technologically developed intellectuals to help in the nation's development.

The solution to there quest is to embrace science education. Science education bridges the gap between the knowledge of nature and that of the learner. Everyone needs well-constructed bridges, comfortable accomodation, modes of entertainment good roads, health facilities are developed from concepts of mathematics and allied sciences. In nigeria today, there has been a decrease in the number of students passing mathematics in secondary schools and in teachers handling the subjects.

It becomes imperative to expose pupils, early in life to the applications of mathematical concepts in schools for self reliance. The importance of mathematics as a bedrock for technological development cannot be over-emphasized since no nation can raise her technology higher than the citizens' level in Mathematics. For governments to catch up with demands for scientific advancement, she has been promoting the teaching and learning of mathematics through the following ways:

i. Investing adequate sum of money to promote mathematics teaching at all levels of education.

ii. Supplying printed materials in the form of textbooks mathematics and othe sciences.

iii. Sponsoring teachers willing to acquire further training in mathematics.

iv. Providing schools with adequate facilities for mathematics.

At this levels, it becomes reasonable to investigate why students in our secondary schools do not perform well in mathematics in their junior and senior school certificate examination. A research work by CHUKWUA (1986) revealed that many variables have contributed to the poor performance of students in mathematics in nigerian secondary school and this will have adverse implications for the technological development of nigeria as a nation.
